Write to your councillor and TD

A short, polite, firm letter from a voter lands on a desk that answers to you. Copy a template, fill in the parts in square brackets, and send it from your own email.

Step 1. Find who represents you

Step 2. Copy a letter

Letter to a councillor

Dear [Councillor name],

I live in [your area] and I am writing to you about the Book of Kells and the Made in Kells campaign to bring it home.

The Book carries the name of our town. It was kept in Kells for centuries until 1653, when it was sent to Dublin for safekeeping during the Cromwellian wars. In 1661 it was given to Trinity College Dublin, and it has stayed there ever since.

In 2024, 968,666 people visited the Book of Kells at Trinity College Dublin (Fáilte Ireland). Kells is 69 km away.

Trinity refused to lend the Book to Kells in 2000 and again in 2011.

I support the Made in Kells campaign. We are not asking for a loan. We are asking you to support the permanent return of the Book of Kells to Kells, and to say so publicly.
