Seventeen newly attested Gardaí are going to Meath stations: 13 to Ashbourne and 4 to Navan. They are part of 23 allocated to Ashbourne, Drogheda and Navan, with the other 6 going to Drogheda in Co. Louth. Kells was not among the stations named.

The allocation followed the attestation of 207 new Gardaí at the Garda College in Templemore on Friday 16 October. An Garda Síochána said the class brings Garda numbers to the highest level in the history of the State. Nationally, 76 of the 207 go to the Eastern Region, which includes Meath.

The local station figures were announced by Minister of State Thomas Byrne TD and reported by the Meath Chronicle, the Irish Independent and LMFM.

Garda headquarters says new probationer Gardaí are first placed in training stations, and that consequential transfers of other members mean every Garda division will see an increase in numbers. No source published so far says whether Kells Garda Station will gain members through those transfers.

Reported as of 17 October 2026.
